Annual Swimming Races.
_■» WEST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL. The annual swimming races of the West Christchurch School were held at the school bath, yesterday afternoon, in presence of the Chairman of the Committee, Mr F. G. Hawley, and Messrs D. Reese, E. Bundle, and:J. Munnings, members of the Committee. Mr A*. Francis, captain of the Christchurch Swimming Club, acted as referee, and Messrs Hawley and Munnings as judges. Mr T. S. Foster, head master of the school, was timekeeper, and Mr C. Chilton, starter. The number of entries for the various events was large, and the contests were .very spirited, some of the boys aqquitting themselves with great credit. The results of the various eve ats were as follows : — Champion Handicap, 100 yd8 — D. E unr-an, 4sec, lj C. Fox, lusdc, 2; J. Currie, Osec, 3. Plunging Competition — J. Currie, 1 ; C. Howell, 2. Curries plunge was 32ft 8J in in length — a very good performance for a boy. 50yds Handicap; bays under 13 — J. Currie, 9sec,. 1.; J. Fox, :7sec, 2; N. JohnE-ton,.9-_ec, 3. Long Dive-r-J. Currie, 1124 ft, 1; A. Saunders, 2. Learners' Handicap, 25yds — E. Wolff, 3sec, 1; N. Johnston, scr, 2; J. Rodger, 4sec, 3. Diving for Plates — P. Menzies and C. Howell, equal, 1. Floating — J. Curtio, 1; G. Tacon, 2. Slow Race — A. Saunders, 1 ; G. Tacon, 2 3. J. Currie, 3. Hurdle Race, 50yds, over four hurdles — C. Howell, scr, 1.; C Fox, .7sec, 2 ; J. Currie, 3sec, and P. Menzies, B._ec, 3. Consolation Race, 50yds ; boys over 13 — E. Ewing, 1 ; F. Vizer, 2. Consolation Race, 25yds.; boys under 13 — W. Paterson, 1 ; P. Wood, 2. Mr Francis' silver medal, for the winner of the greatest number of points, waa gained by J. Currie, with 15 points, C. Howell being second, with ten points.
