•• The New Zealand Shipping Company's Royal Mail steamer Aorangi has just completed the 'brilliant run from Plymouth to Port Chalmers of 39 days 12 hour., beating all previous records of any 6teamer in the Now Zealand trade. The performances of this magnificent steamer have been remarkable, and are deserving of more than a passing notice. From Plymouth she has made the following rtins : : — To Port Chalmers ... 39 days 23 hours ... M> „ 2 „ ... 39 „ 12 „ And to Plymouth — From Lyttelton ...40 days „ Wellington ... 40 „ 20 hours „ Lyttelton ... 38 „ 5 „ „ "Wellington ... 39 „ 8 „ And is entitled to be called the Greyhound of the Pacific. The mail came by special train from Port Chalmers, and was delivered on the forty-first day, which, for Christchurch, equals in point of time the delivery vid San Francisco . while correspondence for Dunedin was delivered in less time than is usually occupied by the San Francisco route.
