THE SEACLIFF ASYLUM. DUNEDIN, August 29. The Biblo-in-Scliools Association will petition Parliament at an early d;itt\ MrPyke, M.H.R. for Dunstan, will be
tried by .judge and jury to-morrow, at Tapanui, for treason. [ Mr Gillies' effigy is advertised to be burned at Kaitangata, in the Bruce dis--1 trict, to-morrow night. It has transpirod, with regard to cases of jumping from Seacliff Asylum windows, that ono case, at least, of a rather serious nature has occurred. It was the same patient who formerly, at Mr Hume's private asylum, tried to cut another's throat. He appears to have been left unattended in an upper room" at Seacliff,- "to which he had been transferred, and forced open the shutter in some way and jumped from the window, a distance of thirty feet. Fortunately he fell on soft clay and sustained no permanent injury, though he was laid up for some time. Owing to the unfinished state of the building, a patient named Marisco, from Invercargill, got out of a window on the ground floor and hid in a cellar for some hours.
