Exhibition, Captain Dundaß yesterday proceeded south for the purpose of thoroughly drilling the various contingents of the Canterbury 1 eomanry Cavalry who intend acting as an escort to His Excelloncy the Governor on the occasion of the opening. The Oamaru Bides have, through their commanding officer, notified to Colonel Packe that, with his authority, they intend being present. A special train, leaving Timaru at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, will convoy the Artillery of that town to Christchurch, to take part in the military proceedings of the following Monday. The southern portion of the B troop of Yeomanry will supply 30 men, who will aUo arrive by the same train. A largely attended meeting of ironworkers was held at the Wellington Hotel last evening. Mr Sneddon was elected President and Marshal ; Mr Prince, Vice-Preeident ; Mr Derry, Treasurer ; and Mr Watts, Secretary. It was resolved that a member from each of the various shopa should hand to the Secretary by Thursday next a statement of the probable number of tickets required by thoee intending to walk in the procession. It was resolved that each shop be requested to make its own arrangements with regard to banners, models, &c, to be ueed in the prooeesion. Mr Bneddon was appointed to act as delegate frow the ironworkers at the meeting :on Friday next, at the City Council Chambers. The meeting then adjourned to Tuesday. April 4.
