ST AU BANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary meoting of the St Albans Borough Council was held last evening, at 7.30 o'clock. The following were preßent : — His Worship tho Mayor, and Councillors Turner, Bull, Money, Dickinson, Mann, Rountree, and Moor.

The Mayor read an apology for the nonattendance of Councillor Blakislon.

TBTITIUN,

Councillor Dickinson presented a petition from 260 burgesses, residents in tho vicinity of a road 10 chains long by 40 links wide, leading from the Orescent road to the Shirley road, stilting that in consequence of the said road not being of the prescribed width it had not been taken over by the Avon Koad Board, and still remained unformed ; that this road is of great service to a number of persons residing in the district, but is available for foot passengers only, on account of the bridge over a creek crossing the road not being sufficiently wide for cart traffic ; that as the formation of the road would be a great boon to the residents, nnd could bo effected at a comparatively small coßt, the petitioners prayed the Council to form and metal the same, and erect a bridge fit for cart traffic over the creek.

The matter wbb referred to the Works Committee.

WOBKS COMMITTEE,

The Works Committee reported that the lamps ordered were ready for erection. The bridge on Shirley road had been notified ub unsafe for loads exceeding one ton weight. The Committee, after inspection, had informed Messrs Gresson and Bealey that upon the necessary land being given and the fonoing erected, the Council would form tho portion of the £dgeware road they required. The report was approved. Councillor Dickinson said that the Works Committee found that tho water of Dudley's creek was prevented from flowing and was dammed back, on account of the creek being foul.

It was resolved that tho Drainage Board b 9 written to, requesting thorn to have the crock in question cleaned out.

FINANCE.

Tho Finnnco Committee reported that tho sum of £12 for dog taxes had been received during tho past fortnight. The balance at tho bank was £127 3s 2d.

Accounts amounting to £48 3a Sd were passed for payment.

COBEBBPONDBNCE,

The Mayor read a letter from the Borough solicitors, Messrs Wynn Williams *>nd Doacon, encloaing 3 copy of tho draft by-law re slaughterhouses, and advising what steps the Council should tako in reference thoreto.

Councillor Tumor thought that tho whole management of tho by-law should be left in tho hands of tho solicitors to carry through, and thfln to thorn would belong the credit or otherwise of the production.

The matter was referred to tho By-law Committee.

A letter was read from tho Church Property Trustees stating, in reply to a provious communication from the Council, that it was not their intention at present to motal the roaus to the north and east of section 2-13 F.

It was resolved that no action should bo taken in tho matter by tho Council.

Aftor Irmeautinp eomo routine business, tho Council adjourned till Mendav, April 21, at 7.30 p.m.
