There is a general concensus of opinion on the part of the newspapers against Lord S&liibury's policy.

M. Gambetta, in a public address at Belleville, repudiated the allegation that he was aiming at the Dictatorship of France. In the course of his speech he advocated reform of tho magistracy, and reform in relation to the church taxes. As to the foreign polioy of France, it should, he insisted, be dignified and firm.

Mv Gladstone announced to-day that Government would accept the amendment introduced by the House of Lords regarding the Ulster tenant rights. Although Government had agreed to this, they did not wish the word " compromise " applied to the proceedings.
