AUCKLAND, August 22,
At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerco to-day, Mr Nathan, who lately visited Dunedin, called attention to a letter received from the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, asking for fuller eamplrs of products with quotations, as being an indispensable condition of opening up trade between Fiji and tho South of Now Zealand, and the establishment of an adequate steam service connecting Dunedin and Levuka, and calling at all important intermediate ports. Nothing was to be done with any vessel having Auckland as its terminus. Still a more comprehensive service would not mean business with Otago alone, but it would open up markets at Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Christchurch and Duaodin.
It was resolved to appoint a Committee to obtain fair representative samples, and to forward them, with quotations, to tho Chambers of Commerce in the South of New Zealand, with the view of opening up trade between their respective cities and Fiji. The Secretary was directed to reply to the communication received from the Dunedin Chamber, and to open correspondence with Chrißtchurch, Lyttelton, and Wellington Chambers ; to forward them copies of the trade returns of 1880, and furnish such other reliable data as was calculated to promote the object referred to.
