PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH, PHILIPSTOWN.
A tea and public meeting was held in this church yesterday evening, in aid of tho Trust Fund. Tho wet weather prevented many who had taken tickets from attending, and there was, as a consequence, not so large a number present as was expected. The tea was laid in the church, and the' tables were presided over by the following ladies : — Mrs Wright, Misses Wright (2), Mrs Griffin, Mrs Harding, Miss Jarvis, Mrs and Miss Jackson, Mrs Parks. After tea a public meeting was held, at which the Bey J. Clover presided. The proceedings were opened by prayer, after which the Bey J. Clover expressed regret that the weather had kept many persons away, amongst others the Revs Dallaston, Keast, and J. White, who had promised, if possible, to be present to address the meeting that evening. He then referred to the progress mado by tho church since it had been opened last year. Numerically they had gained strength, and he hoped that by the present ''effort" half tho existing mortgage on the building would be paid off. Some of the brethren addressed the meeting, and tho choir gave some pretty selections from Sankoy's Hymns during the evening.
