ASHBURTON.
_s> Ever since their election in September last, the Borough Council of Ashburtoa have been exerting themselves towards the improvement of this town with unabatmg; vigour. The streets in the town are now beginning to look us if proper care were taken, of them, and the footpaths, which require a great deal of attention at the present time, will shortly bo (alien in baud, and asphalte laid where required. The footpaths in tha outlying streets have been cleared of tussocks in many instances, and a gang of men are constantly employed keeping the various thoroughfares iv proper order. A well for fire prevention purposes has been sunk at the corner of East and Burnett streets, opjxmte Messrs Montgomery and Co.'s building and the Li/tleUon Times office, which will supply a large quantity of water, should it be required at any time. A largo number of important works are being undertaken by the; Council, and the members deserve to be congratulated on the interest they ta!ce in. Municipal matters.
