SPORTING NOTES.

[By the Dbttid.] On Saturday morning I again paid a visit to the racecourse, but was unfortunate in not seeing many of the horses at work. Ted Cutts had out his full morning complement, but only sent Guy Fawkes along, who was stripped, and with Wallar (late of the Bush Inn stables) up took a turn twice round. The hone went in his usual style, and waß both fresh and well. Puriri, the Fair Agnes ooit, Lilipee oolt, and Songster only took walking exercise. With the exception of Songster, all tho lot look rathor feaokward in their work, which, in a measure, is to bo accounted for by the very wet winter we have had preventing their doingany heavy work. It is a fault, I think, on the right side for horses to bo short of work, rather than that they should have too much of it. Many a good horse is rendered totally unfit to raoo from over-preparation and hard work. Tho truth of this argument was strikingly exemplified in the case of Potraroh, who was said to be short of work when he won the Two Thousand. He was afterwards worked hard up for the Derby, overdone, and was not in the race from the post to the finish. Korari and his sister, with the Meg Morriliea filly, wore in the stable, their time for doing work being of an afternoon. Looking over tho fenoointoMr Redwood's paddook I saw Amohia quietly grazing along one of the ditches, so she evidently is not intended to do muoh this ooming mooting, unless it be in some of tho short raoest The Bush Inn atablo was out with a full string, and all took their usual cantor once, or rather part of the way, round, and then walked home. Tantrums oolt seems full of beans, as he gives his boy all he can do to sit him. I hoar it whispered about that ho is tho ooming horse of tho stable, and tho whole orowd, this year. Muoh as I like the Tantrums oolt, I can't Bee that ho is going to boat all in the Derby, or else tho lot must do more inferior than I take them to bo. The Fireworks oolt improves oaoh time I boo him, and I like his going muoh ; ho, no doubt, will bo entered for the O, J.C. Handicap, and perhaps for the Cup. Tho Lady Florence Oolt promises to turn out a pretty good one, and will, perhaps, be in the Cup and Handicap, as staying appears to me to bo bis forte. Cloth of Gold is sure to bo a Cup and Handicap horso, and if leniently dealt with by tho handioapper in tho O. J.C, might, if ho runs honest, give a good aocount of himself, but ho h a sad rogue, and ia very apt to run off tho course when pressed. Sproydon was out, but I don't like him a bit, oxcopt for oross-oountry purposes, and at that work ho looks as if ho would perform properly. Boy Bay had The Lady Lea filly, Fallacy, Danebury, and Tadraor out. Fallacy first went once round at a vory slow cantor j then followed tho other throe, who oantorod about half a mile, then walked a bit, and finishod home tho remainder of the round at a good gallop. Danobury is the horeo of thiß stable, and in him they think they havo a good oolt. It is rathor early in tho day yet to prophooy, but I don't think the Champagne winner will repeat his dose on tho Derby day, and land his colours first past the post for the Blue Biband. Tadmor will sorvo as a good trial horso for tho stable, and in him Bob Bay will be able to got a guide as to how his horses are doing. Fishhook was out and was sent round at a pretty fair pace. He appears to blow quite as muoh as he did, but his oondition is muoh more forward than that of anything on tho oourso, as ho has nover boon thrown out of work sinoe tho Autumn Meeting. I may be wrong, but I think a couple of months' rest would have done Fishhook moro good than anything olso, as at tho Autumn Meeting, tho horso appeared thoroughly tired out. Mr John Lunn's little mare Nectar was out looking very well 5 Bho took her quiotlittlo canter vory nicely. Nectar will no

doubt enter for tho 0.J.0., and if lot in light, run for it, otherwise oountry meetings will pay her owner best. lam glad to hear Mr Lnnn has purohased Mr P. Campbell's two year filly* by Trftduoßr, out of Opera, a filly with plenty of good bone and substaaeo, and ono that is sure to run well for tho Baby raoo, having plenty of powor to carry Bst lOlbs at so oarly an ago. Tho next time I visit tho course I Hope to see more work dono. Boforo then, also, tho entries for both tho Cup and the 0. J.O. will|be out, so that I shall have a little moro of interest to write about.

George Outts, with Mr Watts' horses, will be hero Boon, and also Mr Waltors with two or throe, He has, I hoar, a very good colt in the Dorby, out of Fanny Fisher by Dainty Ariel. On the dam's side the colt is right enough, but I don't think Dainty Ariel's stook oan beat Traduoer's or Towton'a.
