POULTRY EXHIBITION.

The exhibition at the Oddfollows' Hall was oontinued on Saturday, when tho number of visitors was exceedingly largo. During tho day the hall was very busy, and in tho evening there was a regular orußh. Tho roooipts for admission during the two days amounted to £50, and tho promts on the art union will be about £90. In estimating tho number of visitors to the exhibition both these amounts must be oonsiderodj as the art union tickets oonforred the right of admission bosidos tho ohaneo of winning a prize. As, in former years, exhibitors wore compelled to attaoh a selling price to their exhibits, and, generally speaking, those ruled somewhat high. They did net, howevor, have a prohibitive offeot, for no less than 75 sales were mado. These realised £160, or about twioo as muoh as last [ year. This is a very satisfactory foaturo in the exhibition, as tho exohange of ownorahip will doubtless bring new fanoiors into tho flold, and produoo moro competitors at tho next exhibition. Several new names have appeared in the list this year, and it is to bo hoped thero will be a still greator number when anothor season oomoe round. Atprosont thero is overy reason to believe that it will be so. Most of the purohased exhibits will remain in the vioinity of Christohuroh, and for those whioh are to be removed somo distance —as, for instanoo, a number whioh go to Timaru— the railways offer an easy and safe means of transit. The prize list for imported poultry was not completed on Saturday night, but will bo finally arranged at the next meeting of the Committee |

Among numerous other improvements made by Mr Walker, tho hon. soorotary, this year, it may bo mentioned that on Saturday ho introduoed a new system of delivering the exhibits on orders whioh worked very well, and no doubt with tho oxperionoo gained this year ho will bo able to do still bettor at future exhibitions. Tho systom is cortainly a good one, as it prevents tho birds being rushed out indiscriminately, with tho probability of some being lost. After the exhibition olosed on Saturday night, the Seoretary found some of tho exhibits, including some of thoso Bold, loft in tho hall. He has taken duo oaro of them; but it would be well to remind thoso interested that the exhibits remain at thoir own risk. It may also bo remarked that the Soorotary has quite sufficient to do without having to tako ohargo of noglootod birds.

In closing our remarks upon this the most successful exhibition of the bind ever held in the Colony, it is duo to tho Seorotary and Committee to say how much their energy and zoal contributed to seouro such a good result. It is impossible to Bay where or Jbow they oould have done better, and the Soorotary is espooially doßorving of commendation in this respeofc.
