Cattle Trespassing. — Christian Ditford, on three separate informitions, for one horse at large in Lichfield street, fined 10s; John "V ivian, one horse tethered and one horse at large in Cambridge terrace, fined 10s; Robert Ball, one horse tethered in Manchester street north, fined 10s ; Peter Cain, one goat tethered in Manchester street, 10s; Edward Griffin, one goat tethered in Cambridge terrace, 10s ; — Sunderland, one cow at large in Cambridge terrace, ss ; Thomas F. Price, seven cows at large in Cambridge terrace, 10s ; James Francis, one horse at large in Armagh street, ss ; John Harler, one cow at large on the South t')wn belt, ss. Chimney on Fire — Maria Chillingworth, for having negligently allowed the chimney of htr house to get on fire, was fined 10s; but his Worship remitted it on account of accused being a widow in very poor circumstances, and because she promised to be more careful in future. A Disorderly Character — Alexander North wai summoned for having behaved himself in a public thoroughfare so as to provoke a breach of the peace. From the evidence of Constable Rutledge and W. Simmonds, it app?ared that accused went to a house in St Asaph street, the residents not being in at the time, and commenced battering the door with a paling. He also broke a window and would not go. The witness, Simmonds, who occupies the next house, then went to put him out of the yard, when he struck witness, and was altogether very disorderly, a large crowd collecting. In defence, accused pleaded drunkenness as an excuse, averring that he did not know what he was doing. A fine of 20s was imposed. Obstructing a Thoroughfare. — Philip Schumacker, for obstructing a public thoroughfare— the Papanui Road — near the Sawyers' Arms Hotel, by burning gorse thereon, was fined 10s. Disorderly Brothel. — Elizabeth Darby, a very old offender, was summoned for keeping a disorderly house in Madras street north, for the resort of prostitutes, and persons having no visible means of support. case was fully proved by two neighbours, >'ergt. Pratt, and Detective Feast. His Worship reprimanded her strongly for the number of houses she had been compelled to leave because of the disorderly manner in which she bad kept them, and sentenced her to three months' imprisonment, with hard labour. Assault. — John Downey was summoned for having violently assaulted W. S. Philips, but failed to appear. His wife was in attendance, and said he had gone up-country to look for work. His Worship ordered a warrant to be issued for accused's arrest. Unregistered Dogs.— Philip Tisch, for having two unregistered dogs above the prescribed age in his following, was fined 40s. Negligent Cabman. — Archibald Hammill was proved, on the evidence of constable Wilson, to have neglected to keep the stipulated lights burning on his licensed vehicle, and was ordtred to pay 10s. Absent from his Vehicle. — Frank Davis, a licensed cabman, was charged with having absented himself from his cab whilst plying for hire near the Criterion Hottl. Constable Wilson proved the offence, and a penalty of 10s was imposed. Drunkenness. — Samuel Finlay, in the custody of constable McGuire, was brought up, charged with having been drunk and disorderly in a public thoroughfare yesterday, and the case being proved, he wns fined 10s. Fighting in the Streets. — John Quine and C. Crane, on bail, were jointly charged with this offence. Sergeant McEnight proved the fight to have occurred in front of the Foresters' Hall. Crane having previously b. 3 en before the Court for a similar charge, was fiued 20s, or, in default, 48 hours' imprisonment ; Quine being mulcted ■in the lesser penalty of 10s, or, in default, 24 hours' imprisonment.
