Inspector Pender informed the Bench that he had , seen' Dr Prins, who told him the woman was out of danger, but that it would aot.be safe for her to attend the Court before Friday next.' Hig Worship said he would adjourn the" case until that day, and remanded the prisoner accordingly. -, Stealing from the Person.— Robert Wickettand Edward Davis, two youths, were brought up in custody) charged with having stolea a money order from a msnnam«d Ward at the Borough Hotel. Detective Feast said on Saturday night he saw the two prisoners together in Gloucester street, arid* from what conversation lie overheard between them, and

information received from Andrew M'Taggart, a cabman, he followed them to Mills' Hotel in Oxford Terrace. They knocked the landlord up, and all four went inside. Witness saw the prisoner Wicfcett with the order produced in his hand. He wanted the landlord to cash it, but as soon as witness saw the order he told him it was stolen property, and seized prisoner's band. Prisoner closed his hand, bat, after a straggle, witness succeeded in obtaining ,v possession of the order. Witness had previously heard him say that Be had r giveh r JEIS for it. Tlietwd prisoners had been at the Theatre together. A man named Ward made a report at the Depot on Thursday-morning last that he had lost an order for £20 Is, drawn in his favour by W. Gerard on Miles and Co. The order witness took from Wickett answers to this description. The prisoner Wickett was cook at the Borough Hotel. Ward lost the order there. Wickett was cook there at the time. Witness bad been unable to find Ward yet, but had heard that he was still in Christchurch, and if time were allowed, he .would no doubt be. able -to secure his attendance. The prisoner Davis made a statement in defence, to the effect that he only came down country on Friday last, and that meeting with Wickett, who was an old shipmate, they went to the Theatre together. Beyond this he knew nothing whatever^ of the affair. In reply to the Bench, Inspector Pender said there was further implicatory evidence to be brought against Davis. He bad been heard to say that he . contributed £5 towards the £15 which Wickett said he gave for the order. His Worship said, under these circumstances, he would remand both prisoners until Wednesday.
