HEATHCOTE ELECTION.
The nomination of candidates took place at the Road Board office, Ferry Road, at noon to-day. There were about 40 persons present. Dr Donald, Principal Returning Officer, read the writ, and called upon an elector to propose a candidate. The following candidates were nominated : Mr Joshua Strange Williams, solicitor; proposed by Mr Wm. Wilson, seconded by Mr William Parish. Mr Wm Patton Cowlishaw, solicitor; proposed by Mr Wm Wilson, sec6nded by Mr Keunaway. Mr James Temple Fisher, farmer ; proposed by Mr John Anderson, seconded by his Worship the Mayor of Christchurch. Mr H. B. Huddleston, C.E., proposed by 1 Mr Loughnan, seconded by Capt. Charles- ! worth. | Each of the candidates addressed the meet- | ia s- ' ' j A show of hands was taken, and resulted in favour of Messrs Williams, Cowlishaw, and Fisher. A poll was demanded by Mr Huddleston, and will take place on Wednesday next, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The result will be declared an hour later.
