Tauranga Hospital Board

Monthly Meeting The bi-monthly meeting of the Tauranga Hospital Board was held last Thursday. Present : Messrs A. F. Tunks (Chairman), H. J, Clarke. W. F. Sinclair, J. A. McGhie. H.Cuff.C. McNaughton and C. T. Clinkard. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs G. H. Mends and B. C. Robbins. Medical Superintendent The Director General of Health wrote acknowledging letter advising that Dr .7. Mark has been appointod Medical Superintend ent of tho Tauranga Hospital, •and the Hon. the Minister had signified his approval to Dr Mark’s appointment. St. John Ambulance Dr M. H. Watt, Director-Gen eral of Health Wellington, wrote advising that the proposed grant of £25 to the St. John Ambulanoe Association was subject to the consent of the Minister, who had indicated his approval to the proposal. . Board a Beneficiary Mr 0. W. Bamfield, District Public Trustee, Te Aroba, wrote in reference to a proposal to dispose of a large property at Matata in the estate of the late Mr James McOutchan. Mr Lumley stated that the Hospital Board was a beneficiary in the estate. It was decided that the Board agree to the conditions submitted by the District Public Trustee. Banking of Moneys The Auditor-General wrote asking for an assurance that ail moneys would be banked at periods not exceeding three days in accordance with the provisions of Clause 21. of the Regulations Under the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act, 1926. The Secretary, had replied* stating that his office was two and a half miles out of town and the Board had instructed him to bank weekly. The Board decided that money be banked twice a week and that the Secretary be made an allowance of 2s per week.

Te Puke Hospital Miss Chappell, Matron of the Te Puke Maternity Hospital, forwarded report for the month of March. Twenty one patients were admitted, and sixteen discharged. One patient was transferred to the Tauranga Hospital. Eight patients remained in hos pital at the end of the month. Miss Chappell’s report for April stated that sixteen patients were admitted to the hospital and 24 discharged. One out patient was treated. For the year ended March 31 1933, the ! total number of patients treated waR 132. Miss Chappell reported that the Vacancy on the staff was filled by the appointment of Nurse F. G. Brown.

Fees Due by Natives Mr Sinclair referred to the sitting of the’Native Land Rateß Committee at Tauranga' and ask- • ed that particulars be prepared as to the number of patients admitted to the Board's hospitals from Tauranga County, Tauranga Borough, and Te Puke Town Board District. —Referred to the Secretary. Tauranga Hospital Dr J\ Mark, Medical Superintendent of the TaUranga Hospital, presented his report as follows : During the month of April l there were 51 admissions ; aVeri age daily number of patients 26.73 number of patients at end of month. 24 ; one death from acute lobar pneumonia ; infectious cases, one diphtheria and one acute pneumonia ; operations 23. Month of May.— Admissions 51 ; avorage daily number of patients 31.5 ; patients at end of month 32 ; one death from tubercular meningitis ; infectious cases two, diphtheria ; operations 32.
