TE PUKE ATHLETIC CLUB

A meeting of the Te Puke Athletic Club was held in ihe Alliance Hall on Friday last, Mr G. Murphy presiding. Those, present were: Messrs W. Pilcher, R. Brownlee, J Lydon, J. Stevens, E. Moore, R. Palmer, T. Morton, F. Pemberton, M. Stewart, C. Donovan,' W. Maltby and G. Bennett (secretary). . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr C. E. Macmillan, M.P.," offering a tropby x for competition. —The offer was accepted with thanks, and on the motion of Mr Bennett it was decided to award'the gift as a points prize for the four open events. / Messrs Cameron and Thomas wrote offering a ham for a guessing competition. —The offer was accepted with thanks. The Secretary and Mr M. Stewart reported having canvassed the business people for donations and trophies which resulted in a generous response. It was further reported that Messrs Mahoney and Gillan had donated the first prize (£5) for the Te Puke Handicap. —A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the donors.

It was decided to place -a cycle race on the programme. Distance V/i miles. The first prize to be £1 and the second a trophy. Nominations Is 6d, post entry. It was further decided to procure an assortment of toys for children’s races from three local firms.

On the motion of the Chairman it was decided that Mr Davies be asked to take charge of the quoits competition. ' Owing to the Te Puke Band being unable to play on sport’s day it was decided to try and get a piper for the occasion. Mr W. Maltby was authorised to write re engaging same.

On the motion of Mr R. Brownlee it was decided to alter the Old Buffers Race to road “over 50 years.” The secretary reported that ho had laid down a .track five laps to the mile and that other distances were measured, for the convenience of competitors training.
