BAND PICNIC

AN ENJOYABLE OUTING During the week-end the Te Puke Town Band, at the invitation of Mr Berquist, held a picnic and sports programme at the Paroa Flaxmill. The bandsmen and their friends were conveyed by motor to the Canaan landing and by launch down the Kaituna River to their destinations very pleasant trip occupying about two hours. On arrival the party was supplied with boiling water and luncheon was partaken of. During the afternoon an attractive sports programme was provided, results of whioh. are published below. Numerous musical items whioh were greatly appreciated, were rendered by the band during theday, these adding greatly to the pleasure of the outing. During the day, Mr Parr, of the Public Works Department, oonveyed a number of interested visitors to the new Kaituna channel.

Before leaving the Paroa Estate, Mr Budd, on behalf of the town bandsmen and their friends, thanked the host and hostess (Mr and Mrs Berquist) for the very pleasant day spent there. On rising to respond' Mr Berquist was greeted with cheers. The visit to the estate oonoluded with everyone singing "For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow."

Good community singing was enjoyed up river, several solos being sung by members of the party. Before disembarking cheers were given for the launchmen of- Messrs Broad and Berquist, for the able manner in which the picnic party had been conveyed from Canaan Landing. A tired but happy party eventually reached Te Puke, being conveyed home by motor buses freely loaned by the owners, who were ip no small > measure responsible for the success of the outing.
