Drinking in Heaven.
A private letter received m Auckland from a gentleman m Wellington states that Harrow's latest oetition to the Lrovernment is likely to effect a great revolution in the morals of our legislators. Seeing that there is a prospect of drinking wine out of golden cups, honourable members are determined to leave off imbibing at Bellamy s, so as to be able to join the Takapuna Pauper m Heaven. Golden harps gave little inducement to those seasoned old topers, but wine out of golden cups is something remarkably enticing. Just fancy Lord Pyke of Otago, Sir Frederick of Auckland and Sir George of Onehunga toasfcmg the Takapuna Pauper in bumpers of wine out of golden cups ! That would be something heavenly indeed. No wonder that all the members o°f tne Upper Bouse are determined to turn over anew leaf along with a majority of the Lower House. Harrow has effected a greater reformation than all the parsons in the colony. Me Trevithick has given up the Auckland Amateur Orchestral Society, which will now collapse. T his evening there is to be a fashionable concert given m the City Hall in aid of the Early Closing movement. Moßt of our leading vocalists and instrumentalists have promised to assist, and the object being such a deserving one, there is sure to be a bumper house.
