A Lucky Lawyer
A newly-fledged lawyer, in a settlement on the East Coast, has everything his own way there, and would make some of his brethren in Auckland quite envious. No opposition, and all the secrets of the place known to him from childhood. He gives legal advice to both sides, whea a lawsuit is impending, and does not neglect to pocket double fees. He is also singularly fortunate in his relationship. The author of his being is the local postmaster and telegraphist, and the youthful member of the Devil's Own was erstwhile a telegraph operator. It is rumoured that an inquiry is to be instituted, in regard to certain land speculations the father and eon have been engaged in, and how far they have made use of certain private information, that in the ordinary course of business has passed through the local telegraph office.
