LICENSING LAW BREACH. FINES TOTAL £3O. CASE IN ASHBURTON. [By Telegraph.—Press Association] ASHBURTON, Sept. 26. In the Magistrate’s Court, Andrew William Wright, agent at Mayfield fc. a hotel at Metliven, Avas fined a total of £3O. made up of £lO on a charge of having sold liquor Avitliout a license, and £lO on each of tAvo charges of having assisted the licensee of the hotel to sell liquor to a person under tho age of 21.
The defence Avas that 84 bottles of
iquor Avitliout labels, Avhicli Avere
seized by the police, Avere parts of orders not taken over by customers.
Tavo charges against the licensee. W. J. Halliday, of having sold liquor to a person apparently under the age of 21, hinging on Wright’s case, were witlulraAvn, the magistrate holding that the youths concerned could be regarded as appearing to bo 21 years of age.
