SAFETY OF PROPERTIES.

SPERRY LANE AREA. PETITION TO COUNCIL. NO ACTION TO BE TAKEN. A petition from Mr. E. Hindman and four others was received at yesterday's meeting of the Thames Borough Advisory Committee asking that the necessary action be taken for the safeguarding of their properties.

Those signing the petition stated they were owners and ratepayers of

properties in and about Sperry Lane. Karaka Creek, and desired to bring under the notice of the Council the manner in which the creek was encroaching into the road, making it difficult for lorries and ears to get in, and also endangering the safety of their properties. The engineer, in a report of the situation, said the only vehicular access to the three houses between Sperry Home and the Karaka Creek was by means of a roadway alongside the creek, 13ft wide. There was sufficient room for vehicles to turn into Sperry Lane. An inspection of the ground showed very little, i f *»ny, indications of creek encroachment.

“I can find no record as to the legality of these roadways, and the mat' ter of protecting the properties is purely a matter for private action. The lands are held as residence sites, and because of this,’ need not, I think, havo frontage to a legal road,” added the engineer.

It was decided to advise the petitioners that, in view of the report, it was regretted that no action could be taken.
