RATE PAYMENT SYSTEM.
PRAISE FOR THAMES METHOD. REMARKS BY COMMISSIONER. STATEMENT FOR FIVE MONTHS. “It is a system that might well bo made generally applicable throughout New Zealand,” said the Borough Commissioner, Mr. A. L. Burk, at the Borough Advisory Committee meeting yesterday, when referring to the rate collection method of monthly payments, which has been in vogue in Thames for some time. This method was a great assistance to the ratepayers as well as to the Council, he added. The rate statement presented at the meeting showed that the current rate to August 31 amounted to £6745, or 37.8 per cent., compared with £6266. or 35.2 per cent., for the same period last year. The arrears collected for the two periods were £763 and £2151, respectively.
Included in the arrears was the sum of £IOO harbour arrears, and the 1937 arrears included the sum of £483 harbour arrears.
