A BIG SAVING.

BOROUGH ELECTRICAL WORKS. BARE WIRE TO BE USED. PUBLIC WORKS DEPT. AGREES. In his report to the Thames Borough Advisory Committee yesterday, the electrical engineer, Mr. B. Colebakcr, stated that the recent application to the Public Works Department for permission to use bare wires instead of covered was successful, being granted on August 15. It had been proved that bare wires were safe, if not safer than covered, and their use would result in considerable future savings. For example, the proposed 3300-volt loop line along Queen Street would cost £315 for bare wire, and would have cost £1350 for covered wire.

The engineer was complimented on the l success of his efforts in this direction.
