FOOTBALLER'S DEATH.
KNOCK ON HEAD.
COLLAPSE IN HOSPITAL.
POST-MOKTEM ORDERED
[By Telegraph.—Press Association] WHANGAREI, Aug. 2.
During the iinai match in the Otamafcea Rugby Union's junior competition un Saturday, Colin John McLean, aged 21, while playing for Waipu juniors, was knocked out. He recovered and attempted to resume playing, but his condition became worse and he was taken to the Whangarei Hospital, where he died early yesterday morning. An inquest was opened yesterday before the coroner, Mr. G. H. Morrish. Dr. Dawson said deceased was quite conscious when he was admitted to hospital, but complained of pains on the left side of his head. An examination showed a small lump in the left side of the skull just in front of the ear. Early yesterday morning deceased collapsed suddenly and died. doctor was not prepared to givo a definite cause for death, but believed the collapse was due to a haemorrhage within the skull or odema in the brain.
The inquest was adjourned and a post-mortem was ordered.
