[By Telegraph. —Press Association] WHANGAREI, Aug. 2.
Whilo digging in the garden at his home at 2, Zealandia Street, yesterday, Desmond Wood dug up two skulls. The police were called, and as a result of further digging operations a few more bones were unearthed. These included a section of a jaw with teeth attached. The bones are thought to be of considerable age, possibly up to 100
years. Mr. E. J. Wood thinks one skull differs in the shape of the forehead from Maori skulls he previously examined. One skull was broken in a way which looks as though a bullet had passed through it. The police arc making further inquiries.
