Mining Subsidies.

PROSPECTING SATISFACTION

CONTINUANCE OF POLICY

The subsidies which the Unemployment Board has been paying in the past to prospectors are to bo continued bv the new Government,

The Minister for Employment, tho Hon. H. T. Armstrong, said at Christchurch that there was 'cause for very much satisfaction in the success that had attended subsidised prospectors. The percentage which the Unemployment Board received of gold won by men on subsidy went a long way towards the cost of the scheme, many men employed on it were able to make fair wages, and results generally were such as to warrant tke scheme be-

ing continued. When he himself had visited mining districts, said Mr. Armstrong, he had seen mnay of these prospectors, and they had appeared to be doing well. All seemed to be getting gold, and seemed satisfied. The large-scale mining by subsidised men working under the direction of an engineer, would also be continued, he said, and new areas would he investigated.
