Hot Pool Danger.
NEED FOR FENCING. , THE ROTORUA TRAGEDY. COMMENT BY CORONER. (Special to Star). ROTORUA, Sept. 18. The inquest concerning the deatli of Miss Nona Pettit, aged 20, win/ tell into a hot pool on the night of September 13, was concluded yesterday. Dr. Mackereth, hospital superintendent, said the girl died from shock following severe scalding. The coroner, Mr. L. Richards, brought in a verdict of accidental death, adding a rider that the death of this young girl again pointed attention to the necessity for the proper fencing of these dangerous pools, as tragedies of this kind were becoming frequent. The rfder stated that precautionary measures should be taken without delay, and that tho authorities controlling this area should take immediate steps adequately to enclose all the dangerous spots that were within its jurisdic-, tion. The coroner said: “I undesswuid? that the pool adjacent to tlw> sceneof this unfortunate fatality- was. a very popular bathing place-. If that is so, the public should he made to realise that deviating from the footpaths after darkness for the purpose of a bath, however pleasant it might be, involves too great a risk, particularly in. the absence of adequate lighting facilities.” ,/!
