A WOMAN FINED.
ißy Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI- Dec. 10.
"The water supply of Wanganui is quite satisfactory. We are taking action not because we have not enough water, but because of the extraordinary consumption," said the chief city inspector, Mr G. Fear, in the Magistrate's Court, when Margaret Mary Hume was charged with allowing water to waste and also with using a hose without holding it in her hand. Mr Fear said defendant would not take a warning and refused to turn the water off. ' When told that she would be prosecuted she had said she would sooner pay the fine than comply with the request. She had also refused to give her name. The magistrate, Mr J. H. Salmon, said:—"This is the first case of its kind and it will bei sufficient to impose a fine of 10/-, with 10/- costs, on each charge." i
