MINING NEWS.
MANAGER’S REPORT. Occidental Una-United.— Since my last report, work in the mine is still confined to the breaking out of ore from the stopes north-west and southeast on the Stockwork formation. North-west stope: The formation in this stope is about 4ft. wide, composed of a! mixture of quartz stringers and country rock. The veins of quartz vary from lin. up to Ift. in thickness, carrying excellent mineral, and_ during j. he week strong colours of gold wei’e to be seen in the various veins. South-east stope: The Stockwork will average about 10ft. in thickness, of country rock and quartz veins. The veins of quartz will average from 2ft. down to lin. in width, and all this is shot down and sorted out for battery treatment. During the week some stone showing strong dabs and colours of gold were to be seen in the veins of quartz that make up this large body of reef formation. Crushing with nine heads of stamps is still proceeding at McGregor’s battery.
