CRUISER TOURVILLE.
CREATING MUCH INTEREST
LUNCHEON AT WELLINGTON
(Bv Telegraph.—Preps Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 10.
The French cruiser Tourville, now lying at Wellington, is creating considerable interest, large numbers of people being gathered about the ship.
The official calls have been returned by Sir Joseph Ward, who was accompanied by a number of Cabinet Ministers, the Mayor, and by several city councillors. The" captain and officers were entertained at luncheon at Parliament House.
BROTHERS IN ARMS. , ' (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. Sir Joseph Ward, in proposing the toast of the naval visitors at the luncheon, said he was convinced that he was expressing the sentiments of the entire Dominion when he said the welcome he had the honour to extend was characterised by a very special spontaniety, sincerity and warmth of feelings which were hound together for more than a decade by the ties of friendship and mutual respect, which were none the less effective for their lack of formal and precise definition. The two nations found themselves in. 1914 obliged to defend by sea and land the honour of their counties and the liberty of mankind. The brotherhood in arms had given way to a brotherhood in peace, and the two countries were still in the closest co-operation, and were engaged in an endeavour to guarantee the liberties' of the nations and- to build the future of th e world on a permanent foundation of security and justice.
