BROOKLANDS TO CLOSE.
A PUBLIC NUISANCE. The fate of Brooklands motor racetrack at Weybridge, Surrey, the only motor racecourse in Britain, hangs in the balance. Local residents who have from time to time complained of the excessive noise created by racing cars using the track have now decided to take definite action in the law courts with a view to having the course closed, on the grounds that racing is causing rapid deterioration in the value of property, and that the noise made by the cars constitutes a. public nuisance. The case will he defended by the Brooklands Automobile Racing Club. Early last year the club formulated special regulations to deal with the trouble. Exhaust-boxes and pipes of a certain specification were insisted upon, hut apparently the results have not satisfied those who live in the neighbourhood.
