A BAD FOG. (A. and N.Z. Cable). MELBOURNE. Dec. 28. Captain Burch relates that the Cedina was the first to reach the scene of the Karitane’s disaster. He noticed a “want assistance” signal after the weather cleared and approached the Karitane which was partly submerged. Captain Spain reported that she had struck her forepart and stove in the forehold which was quickly flooded. - When beached the afterhold' and engineroom were dry. Captain Burch, adds that the fog belt seemed to settle at some distance and Deal Island had all the appear--ance of the mainland. Reports vary respecting salvage. The Herald states that the vessel is in a favourable position between boulders and deep water. The Telegraph says the vessel is a total wreck and if south-easterly weather is experienced the steamer will break up.
