MARINE CASUALTY.
KARITANE WRECKED. BEACHED IN SINKING CONDITION. (A. and N. Z. Cable.) MELBOURNE, Dee. 27. The Union Company’s Karitane has been wrecked. , , The chief engineer of the Karitane states that they encountered a thick fog on Saturday morning and speed was reduced. Suddenly he received a command, “Full speed astern,” and some time later the Karitane struck haevily and water poured in everywhere. . After two hours searching for a suitable landing the vessel was beached in a sinking condition.
