SOCIAL EVENING.

A most; enjoyable evening was spent at the Thames Fire Brigade station last evening. /There were . a large number of visitors present, including a number of members of : the Waihi Fire Brigade. Suporin-. tendent Garrett presided. Addressing the gathering Hie superintendent referred to the successful year that the brigade hid passed through. Ho trusted that each' member of the brigade, if ho were going away from home, woulrt endeavour to obtain a deputy, who be availablo in case of fire. Ho spoke of the evidence of goodwill and fellowship that existed between them all, and took the opportunity of wishing all a most hearty and prosperous New'Tfear. On behalf of the brigade he presented Mrs. Rose with a tea service as evidence of the regard that the brigadehad for Mr. Rose and his > wife and family. Mrß. Rose had contributed to make the evening the success it was. Mrs. Rose suitably acknowledged ffie gift: The superintendent also presented "Dr. Liggins with a photograph of the brigade as a slight acknowledgment of his valuable services as surgeon to the Brigade. During the evening songs were rendered by members and '" the* * friends, and numerous toasts our«'f.. lho opening concluded at a late hour,- with the singing of "Aulrj Larg Svne."
