Mr .0. Harris, of Auckland, is visiting I Thames. " Mr. and Mrs. R. Williams left this morning for Rotorua, where they wifl spend the Christmas holidays. Mr. R. H. Bpyd, who has been appointed Chief Postmaster at Thames, arrived yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd are staying at the Royal Hotel. A Dunmlin telegram states that Mr. H. .T. Parata has definitely decided to contest the Southern Maori by-election as an Independent Liberal. Mr. H. Gilfillan, of Hamilton, together with Mrs. Gilfillan and family, have taken a cottage at Waiomo for a few weeks. Colonel R. J. Collins who retires from the office of Auditor-General shortly was farewelled yesterday. Mr. Massey in presenting Colonel Collins with an address and two easy chairs, paid a tribute to the lofig and faithful service that officer had rendered to the Dominion. Mr Downie Stewart and Sir Francis Be 1 and Messrs. Nalder and Fowler, on behalf o£ the staff also spoke and Colonel Collins suitably replied.
