COAL MINES DISPUTE. A MEMORANDUM. (Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 22. Th o Arbitration Court award in tho Auckland coal mines dispute has been given. Tho court, in a memorandum, states that,/ in preparing Ui e awai d. it endeavoured to adhere to I~hc spirit and general conditions of the national agreement of 1920, in so far as tfhey applied to the northern industrial district. Rates of pay have been fixed as nearly as possible on the basis of the 1914 rates, plus SO per cent, to pieceworkers arid 60 per cent, to timeworkers. This, was the intention of the national agreement. The, increases provided by the national agreement appeared to have been based on food prices cur renti in January, 1920, when the ''nr crease over prices in July, 1914, war. 57.76" per cent. Provision is mado for referring disputes Avhich cannot be settled by the uni<jn executive and the management of the mine to the District Disputes Committee, and work is to b 0 continued in all respects, pending tho decision of the committer*. Tho adoption of a go-slow policy., or..the holding of ,stop-work, meetings without the permission ot the manager at any mine, will bo regarded as a breach of the award.
