FARMERS’ UNION.

j SOUTHERN TOUR. EVANGELISTS SATISFIED. (Special Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, October 10. The delegation from the Farmers’ Union, led by Mr W. J. Poison, the Dominion president of the organisation, which' started out on a tour of the South Island some three weeks ago, has returned well satisfied with the result of its labours on behalf of co-operative marketing, producerowned and State-subsidised shipping and farmers’ agricultural banking. Mr Poison. and his colleagues, Captain F. Colbeck, the Dominion vice-president and Mr E. C/ Jack, addressed forty meetings of farmers during their absence at centres between Havelock and Bluff, and received favourable receptions everywhere. The only disquieting feature of their tour, indeed, was the absence of opposition to the gospel they were preaching. But this is the accepted way of the agricultural community, and, Mr Poison has no jjoubt of its readiness to join in an organised effort towards self-help. The delegates hope to begin a systematic tour of the North Island within the next few , months, and have no doubt their reception here will be as encouraging as it was in the South. Meanwhile they are devoting a little judicious attention to the. politicians assembled in Wellington.
