WOOL.

IMPROVED OUTLOOK. THE DOMINION’S FLOCKS. (From Our Correspondent.) PARLIAMENT BLDGS. Oct. 12. The report that the price of wool had made a big advance in the London market was mentioned in tho House by Mr. E. Newman (Manawatu), who sgid that it was important that wdolgrowers should know exactly 'what had occurred. The actual advance did not appear to bo as large as the percentage that had been quoted. The Prime Minister replied that he had told the members that morning that the increase at the London wool sales was reported to bo 50 per cent. He had added that if the increase had been 25 per cent., he could have understood it. He had since had tho. cable checked, and had found that tho actual increaso was 15 per cent. That was a substantial increase, and ought to be welcome to the people of this country. Mr. Massey added that ho had ■seen somo figures showing that the exports of manufactured, goods from Britain in July were as great as in May and Juno combined. This was a very satisfactory state of affairs. It. showed that the manufacture was increasing, and that tho demand was increasing. It was . a hopeful indication for the sheepowners of New Zealand. When tiio sheep returns were presented to tho House, tho Minister for Agriculture. (Hon W. Nosworihy) stated that the decrease in the number of sheep during the 12 months just closed had been 634,939. The decrease during tho last three years had exceeded 3,000,000. The decrease was accounted for by the bap. winter, and by the abnormal killing that had taken place during the commandeer years. The farmers, moreover, were taking up dairying to a greater extent than before. He hoped that this year’s lambing would givo a 'better result than last year’s.
