SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES.
WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. The House met ait 9.3Q a.m. The Supplementary Estimates wei-e introduced by. Gdvenaor'ai Message. Sir J. Ward explained the position of the war bonus, which would be voted on the same basis as last yeiar. ■ In addition to the £400,000 voted Tor public servants in receipt of ,£3i3r or lessi, provision was made for an extra shilling for inairied railway mien in a'eoeipt of £2 00 or less. This would absorb £175,000. None of the higher paid officers of the State participated in the bonus.
In each case the bonus would nou \ come out of the Consolidated Fund, but out of the revenue of each department. The extra, allowance to railway men would be made up by extra charges. The' amount estimated in the Bud- i get for the Supplementary Estimates was £700,000. The amount voted on these estimates was £660,000, so they weira living 1 £40,000 on the estimatesi.
