[ MA'RIST BROTHERS 5 QUESTION. THE BILL DROPPED. WELLINGTON, October 301 When <th,e House resumed this afternoon Jtihe ispeaiker announced that the third conference with the Legislative Council on the subjectl cf exemption of clergy, and teachers from conscription had been unable • to come to any agreement, i Mr. Massey intimated that it was not intended to ask for a further conference, but he proposed to aek the House to adjourn, till 7.30 to enable Cabinet to consider the position. ■ The' amendments made by the Legislative Council in the War Legislation Bill were on the motion of Mr. Herdman, agreed to. The Hon. J. A. Hanan moved that the amendments made in the Statute Law Amendment Bill by tlhe Legislative Council be agreed to. He regrettedl that clause 19, suspending the industrial awards to enable disabled soldiers to enter trades for tuition purposes had been deleted. The motion was agreed to, and the House rose at 3.40 p.m.
The House resumed at 7.301 p.m. The Town Planning Bill was introduced by Governor's message. The Hon. G. W. Russell explained that it was only fWired to get the bill printed .and circulated' in order to prepare for a scheme of town planningl after the war. Mr. Massey announced ttiat; it was not intended to proceed' further with the Expeditionary Forces Amend- < ment Bill, -exempting 1 clergy and teachers from conscription. < The bill "would be dropped; for this session. The Premier also , intimated that he proposed to ask the House to consider the supplementary estimates, but as there was no prospect, of their being ready before midnight, he moved that the House adjourn till 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday; The House rose at ■10.40' p.m.- - Press Association. .
