THE CHAMPION STAKES

The V.R.C. Autumn Meeting was continued yesterday. The weather was simply perfect and the attendance good. The running in the Champion Stakes once more showed up Newhaven in his true form, as he left the others in the straight, at the conclusion of a slow run race, winning easily amidst tbe enthusiastic plaudits of the general public. The result of the Champion Stakes, 3 miles, was :—Newhaven 1, The Officer 2, Coil 3. Also ran: Bloodshot, Fort, Preston, Valiant, Betting : Five to four against Coil, three to 1 Newhawen. Once in the straight, the superior pace of Newhaven assured him an easy victory by two lengths. Bloodshot beaten off, last. Time, smin 53secs.
