Mr P. B. Marshall has been appointed secretary to the Department of Industries and Commerce. He is 43 and has served with the Audit Department, Unemployment Board, Labour and Social Security Departments, and as inspector in the Public Service Commissioner’s office. He was closely associated with the organisation and development of wartime departments, particularly the Ministry of Supply and Munitions as chief administrative officer. He visited Canada and the United States in 1944 on a lease-lend and mutual aid special mission.—P.A. Mr J. W. Beagley, physicist at the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory, has beep appointed Director of the Apia Magnetic Observatory, Samoa. He wijl leave by air to-day to take up his new appointment.—P.A. Formerly commander of the New Zealand Air Task Force in the Pacific, Air Commodore G. N. Roberts, A.F.C., Auckland, lias been released from the R.N.Z.A.F. and transferred to tne reserve. He represented New Zealand at the Japanese surrender ceremonies on the Solomons and Bismarck areas. His outstanding services in the Pacific were recently recognised in the award of the United States Legion of Merit.—P.A,
