VESTRY DISAPPROVES
Appointment Of Vicar INZ.P.A.) HAMILTON Oct. 1. Dissatisfaction with the system of church government that denies the parishioner of a parochial district the right to be consulted in the choice of a vicar was expressed at a special meeting of St. Aidan’s Vestry at Claudelands last night, when it was reported that a clergyman of whom the vestry did not approve had been appointed to succeed Canon G. A Crossman, who retires to-day. The vestry unanimously passed a resolution disapproving of the appointment made by the Board of Nomination and deciding not to pay a stipend; to deny the appointee, the use of the vicarage; not to hand him the keys of the church, and not to take any part in the induction ceremony. The vestry approved of a petition being presented to the Board of Nomination asking that the cure be offered to a clerovman from the Wellington diocese whom it nominated, and reminding the board that St. Aidan's was established for the purpose of providing a place of worship for those members of the Church of England who favoured the evangelistic school of thought as opposed to the AngloCatholic school.
