HOCKEY
. VISIT BY AUSTRALIAN TEAM (N.Z.P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Oct. 2. An Australian hockey team is to be invited to tour New Zealand in 1946 if sufficient players of satisfactory calibre are available. This decision was reached at a meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association last night. Mr L. Howard Norton, of Auckland, was elected a life member. The meeting also agreed to hold a conference of direct delegates from affiliated associations in Wellington in April, 1946. The New Zealand Hockey Association has been endeavouring for some time to have arrangements made for a tour either of India or England by a hockey team from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The first move in this direction was made in September 1944, when an official answer was to the effect that consideration would be given at the proper time. Since that date the matter has been brought un again frequently, but without result. This morning the secretary of the New Zealand Hockey Association received the following telegram from the Minister of Defence. Hon. F.
