Jews in Palestine LONDON, September 27. A British Eighth Army Parachute Division is reported to have arrived in Palestine from Europe, says the correspondent of the Associated Press in Jerusalem. The division was brought to strengthen measures against the illegal entry of Jews from neighbouring countries. The correspondent adds that political tension has been increasing in Palestine for some time. Jews Protest at Restrictions (8.50 p.m.) JERUSALEM, Sept. 28. An appeal to the British Government to annul the Palestine White Paper was made in a statement issued at the conclusion of a conference of leading Zionists and members of the principal institutions of Palestine Jewry. •‘Palestine Jewry declares that it will oppose the White Paper policy with all its might and open the gates of Palestine to fellow Jews,” the statement asserted. It added that failure to allow immigration to Palestine ‘‘at this dreadful period in the life of the Jewish people," was tantamount to a death sentence upon the Jewish survivors of Nazi massacre and the rescued Jews still languishing in internment camps under conditions of acute distress. A British constable was shot dead at the Central Post Office at Telaviv, just as an explosion occurred near the building. The explosion caused no casualties.
