Sick Patients From Far East (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 26. The arrival at Wellington on October 5 of the hospital ship Maunganui with 370 sick prisoners of war and civilian internees from Hong Kong and other Far East areas was announced by the Minister of Health to-day. The Maunganui has been serving on loan with the British Pacific Fleet for some months. The Minister added that hospital boards had already been consulted and together with the Army authorities arrangements were in train to ensure that every care and attention was given to these sick people when they arrived. The patients from the Maunganui would be distributed in Wellington and Christchurch areas. It was likely that a considerable proportion would be at the convalescent stage and not require in-patient attention.
