BELSEN TRIALS
Accused Identified (7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 25. When the Belseti trial was resumed to-day, witnesses made more direct identifications of accused, and held out against attempts by defence counsel to shake their testimony or to cast doubts on the accuracy of their memories. A 22-year-old Jewess, Dora Szafran, said she had seen a woman SS guard, Juanna Bormann, set her dog on an elderly woman prisoner who had fallen out of the ranks. When the dog went for the woman’s clothes, Bormann rebuked it and sent it for the woman’s throat. When another guard came up Bormann boasted, “this is my work." Then prisoners carried the corpse away. Witness also identified Bormann as a member of the selection committee for the Auschwitz gas chamber. The accused, hitherto brazen, is now looking increasingly pale and anxious.
