RAY DETECTOR
Forged Totalisator Tickets LONDON. September 25. To suppress the forgery of totalisator tickets at race tracks—a racket assuming big proportions—every pay-out window is now to be equipped with an ultra-violet ray detector, says the “Daily Express.” This device, developed in conjunction with Scotland Yard, reveals instantly whether a ticket is genuine. Tote tickets are now printed on a “bank card” carrying a background design similar to bank notes with the figures and lettering printed in special fluorescent ink. If the slightest alteration is attempted in ink pencil or oy erasion the new detector shows it up as black, whereas the original ink. a uniform pale green, can be altered from day to da.v so that the shade of green shown by the detector alters accordingly.
