KUROW-HAKA.

V Day Celebration At a public meeting held in the Kurow Memorial Hall on Tuesday arrangements were made for the celebration of V Day. Mr A. C. J. Robinson was elected chairman and Mr R. J. Carleton secretary of the district committee to take charge of the celebrations. It was decided to hold a thanksgiving service on the hall at 2.30 p.m. on V Day, this to be followed on a suitable day by a picnic and sports meeting in the school grounds and a dance at night. After some discussion a programme was outlined. This will include a procession of decorated vehicles and a fancy dress parade for children and adults followed by novelty sports events. A further meeting will be held to complete the arrangements. W.E.A. Discussion Group This year the Kurow branch of the W.E.A. intends to form a discussion group on either Modern Japan or East and West After the War. At a well attended meeting on Monday it was decided to invite the W.E.A. tutor, Mr Brailsford, to Kurow to address members on the above subjects. It is hoped to have outside lecturers present fortnightly to speak on subjects of topical interest and to continue debates along the same lines as last year. Public Library The number of subscribers to the library now exceeds 100. Recently the committee spent £l2 on new fiction and hopes to add to this section as more books become available. To help the reading public the shelves have been rearranged and a good number of old books have been discarded. Dramatic Society The Kurow Dramatic Society will stage early in May the three-act play “Sheppy,” by Somerset Maugham. The play is being produced by Dr. Aitken. Members are busy rehearsing, and hope to eclipse their past successes.
