CHRISTMAS CHEER
Big Task For Red Cross
Father Christmas has never been as busy as the voluntary helpers at the Red Cross depot were this last week, when they undertook to pack comforts and gifts for the Timaru Centre. For the Polish children encamped at Pahiatua they nacked 132 new garments, 33 sets of dressing gown, skirt, bloomers and bodice, made to fit the girls of nine. Special gifts from the Timaru V.A.D.'s were also sent to Pahiatua. Seventeen cases of clothing, mostly new, were prepared for dispatch to Greece through CORSO, also two cases of surgical supplies. Another case of layettes was packed for the Hospital of Sick Children, Great Ormond Street. London. Patients in Queen Mary Hospital were not overlooked and 30 Christmas parcels were sent to Hanmer for invalid and convalescent servicemen there. Parcels for soldier patients in the Timaru hospitals and for returned men receiving treatment as out patients, were prepared for distribution on Christmas Day and Christmas gifts for Timaru nurses and V.A.D.’s overseas were also posted. Local patients at Waiplata Sanatorium will each receive a parcel from the Timaru Centre.
